How to set up a donor-advised fund:
- Set up a DAF through your financial institution or fund manager
- Recommend a grant to PathForward online, or have a check sent directly
When granting through your DAF, please include:
- Federal EIN: 54-1615993
- Mailing Address: PathForward, P.O. Box 100731, Arlington, VA 22210
Already have a DAF? For more information, contact PathForward Vice President of Philanthropy Liz Nohra at lnohra@pfva.org.
Stocks & Mutual Funds
A gift of appreciated stock or mutual fund shares is one of the most tax-smart ways to give, and it’s simpler than most people expect.
How to donate stock:
-
Instruct your broker to deliver the shares to:
- The National Capital Financial Group
- Pershing LLC (DTC # 0443)
- Account Name: PathForward Inc NPO
- Account Number: 5AD-880566
- Notify PathForward of your transfer, this step is vital. Contact Liz Nohra at 703-200-3425 or lnohra@pfva.org with your name and phone number, your brokerage house, the transfer date, the stock name and number of shares, and the approximate dollar value
How to donate mutual funds:
- Contact Lois Mastel at the National Capital Financial Group, 202-546-9310, for instructions, since every mutual fund transfer differs depending on where the funds are held. Note that a mutual fund transfer can take 2 to 3 weeks to complete
- Notify PathForward of your transfer, this step is vital. Contact Liz Nohra at 703-200-3425 or lnohra@pfva.org with the same details listed above
Your gift is valued at the average of the high and low price on the date the shares transfer out of your account, per IRS guidance. We recommend consulting your own tax advisor regarding the deduction available to you.
Questions about either type of donation? Contact Liz Nohra at 703-200-3425 or lnohra@pfva.org.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD)
If you’re 70½ or older, a QCD lets you give directly to PathForward from your IRA, tax-free. Your gift transfers straight from your IRA to us, so it won’t count as taxable income, even if you don’t itemize. It also counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year, making it one of the most tax-smart ways to give.
How to make a QCD to PathForward:
- Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct distribution to PathForward
- Ask them to make the check payable to PathForward (Tax ID: 54-1615993)
- Instruct them to mail the check directly to PathForward, not to you
- Gifts must be received by December 31 to count for that tax year

How to give an appreciated asset:
- Contact our development team to discuss the asset you’d like to donate
- Provide documentation of the asset’s value
- Work with your tax advisor to understand the deduction available to you
Real Estate
Donating a home, land, or investment property can offer significant tax benefits while making a lasting impact on our neighbors.
How to give real estate:
- Contact our development team to discuss the property you’d like to donate
- PathForward will work with you to assess the gift and any next steps
- Work with your tax advisor to understand the deduction available to you
Employer Matching
Many companies match employee donations, sometimes doubling or tripling your impact at no extra cost to you.

- Search to see if your employer offers a matching gift program
- Follow your company’s instructions to submit a matching gift request
- Share your donation receipt with your HR or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team
